Inspirations

February

Inspiration one: LOOΠΔ – “Butterfly”

On February 19th, one of my favorite artists, LOOΠΔ, released a song and music video called “Butterfly”. The message of the song and the music video both made me think more about empathy and the butterfly effect playing a part in the real world. In a way, every decision we make can completely change our paths in life, which is one of the main parts of the effect. Have you ever thought of what would happen if you didn’t make a certain decision? I think about stuff like that all the time, and since the song’s theme was about taking control over your life and not letting others judge you, the song relates to the basis of the butterfly effect. Knowing LOOΠΔ and their style of themes in their music, the song was definitely based on the butterfly effect and it was meant to inspire others to do what you want to do in life, rather than other people’s opinions.

Inspiration two: All 3 projects I have worked on this semester

All three of the projects I have been assigned this semester have been about me and my interests, which is something that isn’t I’m not very comfortable with. I have a hard time opening up about myself, especially to people I don’t know or trust. I prefer to keep to myself and not talk about myself a lot. However, these projects have made me talk about myself and get my out of my comfort zone a little bit.

March

Inspiration one: Sunmi – “Noir”

On March 4th, Sunmi, another one of my favorite artists, released a song about social media. The music video showed the lengths people would go to in order to get fame, especially in life-threatening ways. As Sunmi explained in an interview, she thinks it’s the “noir” or one of the darkest and serious topics of our generation, especially since more people die every day due to their want for fame. I definitely agree with her, and since social media is such a big thing, people are willing to try anything to get recognition and attention.

Inspiration two: Mother Mother – “Ghosting”

I recently saw an animation with “Ghosting” as the background music. The song and animation told the story of a girl whose friend had died a few years back. Her friend came back as a ghost and visited her in the mortal world to give her a picture of the two of them to remember him. The girl looked at the photo, held it to her chest and began to cry. Even though the animation was quite short, it was a sweet, well written story.

April

Inspiration one: Twice – “Fancy”

A music group I really like called Twice released a mini album called “Fancy You”, the title track being “Fancy”, on April 22nd. The album consists of six songs, each with a different beat, feel and sound to them. In Twice’s other albums, the songs usually have a similar vibe and feel to them, so I like that they’re trying something new and I like how it shows that Twice is capable of making many different genres of songs. People tend to point out that they keep the same feeling in most of their songs, so I like that they decided to change it up a bit.

Inspiration two: (G)-Idle – “Señorita”

I only recently listened to this song, even though it was released around two months ago. At first, I didn’t really understand the hype after listening to it. I then listened to it again a couple days later and I enjoyed it a lot. The song is about strangers meeting and falling in love, while not telling each others names, and just calling themselves señor and señorita, meaning mister and miss in Spanish. I found this concept to be a little cliche, but I also think with some twists and extra ideas, you could turn it into a super interesting story. I plan to write a small story based off of it in the future, but I don’t have many ideas for it yet.

May

Inspiration one: Heize

My friend introduced me to a music artist named Heize early in the month. I fell in love with her style of music and how all of her songs have such a unique beat and tune to them. I didn’t really pay much attention to R&B music before, but I now really enjoy it and listen to it often because of Heize. My favorite songs of hers are “She’s Fine”, “Jenga” and “First Sight”.

Inspiration two: Giant Pink ft. Yeri of Red Velvet – Tuesday is Better Than Monday

I recently listened to this song by Giant Pink and I found the concept of the music video to be interesting. It was about this office worker who doesn’t like her coworkers yet needed to make money, so she kept working there. Another woman then gets hired to be her secretary and they become close friends and deal with work together as a team. After watching it a few times, I came up with a story idea for it based on the music video. My idea is that at their office, the same week repeats but nobody notices anything until another woman gets hired at the company. The office worker then notices that stuff repeats and asks the woman. The woman explains it to her and turns out to be a time traveler who has come to fix the loop in time.
